Scenic Hudson has been working in coordination with the Town of Lloyd and Fats in the Cats Mountain Biking Club to construct a multi-use trail system spanning across 512 acres of land on this mountain. This trail system has been built solely by volunteers and we expect construction to continue on this trail system over the next 2 years. These trails range from easy to difficult in level and can be used for hiking, biking, running, or snow shoeing. Illinois Mountain offers a unique experience and will eventually link to give access to and from the Rail Trail and Walkway over the Hudson.
The trail system begins to your left at the far southern end of the pond, at the forest opening right near the basketball court. The trails traverse across the mountain through Scenic Hudson and Town of Lloyd lands, heading up to the summit.
. The trail system starts at the southern end of the swimming hole near the basketball courts and Boy Scout camp. You can look for the red blazes. This is geared as a beginners (or warm up) loop meandering around the border of the pond and the Boy Scout camp. This leads you to the white trail, which is moderately strenuous, and starts making its way north and traversing the side of the mountain. The trail eventually pops out on and becomes part of~the access road which is also blazed white. If you continue up the access road you will find the beginning of the next section of trail that we are currently working on, on the left hand side which is also blazed white. This trail traverses the mountain again heading south and leads through some rock armored areas and brings you passed a unique wetland area and further up the mountain. This
trail eventually comes out again on the access road which you can take down and out to the parking lot completing your loop.
Please feel free to enjoy the trails and remember Berean Park closes at dusk.
